Winter Family Fun Day

FAMILY FUN DAY ACTIVITY IDEAS:
INDOOR ACTIVITIES
1) Have a pancake breakfast
2) Make homemade hot chocolate (don't forget the marshmallows!)
3) Make a family dinner: work together to make your families favorite meal
4) Build a blanket/pillow fort then climb in and read books together or, better yet, take turns telling your own stories!
5) Have a family game night
6) Get in your PJs, find some cozy blankets and have a family movie night: Lac du Bonnet Regional Library has a good selection of family friendly movies you can borrow for free and the Freeze Frame International Film Festival for Kids of All Ages will once again be offering FREE movies for families on Louis Riel Day
7) Make a craft: visit our Activities for Kids page for a few craft ideas
8) Make bird feeders and set them up outside
9) Have a dance party!

1) Go for a hike at Blueberry Rock and see if you can complete the Blueberry Rock BINGO scavenger hunt
2) Snowshoe or hike the Bluewater South Trail. WRRD has youth and adult snowshoes you can borrow for free
3) Go Cross-Country Skiing at the Agassiz Provincial Forest Cross-Country Ski Trails or Trans Canada Ski Trails (accessed off Tower Road-South Side): WRRD has adult size cross-country skis you can borrow for free
4) Go tobogganing on the hill at Lakeside Park in Lac du Bonnet (Lake Ave & Oak St)
5) Go Skating on the outdoor rink at Lakeside Park (Lake Ave & Oak St) or Centennial School
6) Go Ice fishing: Free family ice fishing weekend is February 19-21, 2022. No fishing licence is required for that weekend.
7) Play some backyard winter Games like:
*Tic-Tac-Snow: Draw a tic-tac-toe board in the snow and use outdoor objects like sticks and rocks as the X's and O's
*Ice Bowling: Turn your driveway into a lane. Freeze a balloon filled with water and ten bottles of water (make sure not to fill the bottles all the way to the top to leave room for the water to expand). Set the pins up on the driveway and use the frozen balloon (or a ball of some sort) as the bowling ball.
*Snowball Toss: Paint a target in the snow using colored water or draw a target on a piece of cardboard and hang it in a tree and use snowballs to practice your throwing skills
*Freeze Tag
8) Build a snow creation like a snow castle, snow maze, snow creature, etc.
9) Paint the Snow: fill spray bottles, or recycled containers (water bottle with hole in lid, shampoo bottle, ketchup/mustard container etc) with water and food coloring to make a masterpiece.
10) Help out a senior in your neighbourhood by shoveling their driveway or sidewalk
